La Motown, la factoría discográfica de Detroit, cumple 50 años el próximo 12 de enero de 2009.
Hoy, precisamente recordamos a Norman Whitfield, uno de los principales compositores de la Motown, que ha fallecido, autor de clásicos como I Heard it through the gravepine o Papa was a rolling stone. Curiosamente I Heard It Through The Grapevine fue el single más vendido por la Motown cuando lo interpretaron Gladys Knight and the Pips (1967) hasta que llegó Marvin Gaye al año siguiente y superó las cifras de ventas con su versión.
Desde diciembre, Universal Music estará celebrando el acontecimiento de los 50 años del sello, y para ello, publicará el día 1 de dicho mes el álbum Motown 50.
Para ello, Universal está invitando al público a votar sus temas favoritos del sello fundado por Berry Gordy Jr. para la compilación, y de ahí se seleccionarán los 50 favoritos.
Esta votación se celebrará desde esta web desde el 15 de septiembre durante 4 semanas.
La gente que quiera votar deberá seleccionar sus 5 canciones favoritas de la base de datos y entrarán en la porra.
Además, el sello irá invitado a algunos músicos para escoger sus 5 favoritos.
